Free English Language Training (ELT) for Refugees
About Our Free English Language Training (ELT) for Refugees
English Language Training (ELT) has been contracted by the Department of Economic Security (DES) to provide integrated skills instruction to adult refugees, asylees, and Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders who have lived less than five years in the U.S. Students in these classes learn contextualized language skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking). Information about using technology for language learning is provided. Aspects of U.S. culture and civics helpful for interacting in community, workplace, and educational settings are included.
Friendly House offers multiple classes such as English-language and GED preparation classes at no cost to students for most classes if eligible.
