Lineworker Scholarship Award
Up to $10,000
Friendly House is dedicated to assisting Arizona Public Service in their efforts to create a more diverse Electrical Lineman workforce. Since collaborating on a pilot workforce collaboration last year, Friendly House has already engaged over 50 individuals from diverse communities to learn about and consider becoming lineman workers for APS.
This year, Friendly House is prepared to launch a Lineworker Scholarship program in partnership with APS. This special program is intended to financially assist and improve prospective candidates’ accessibility to education and training to enter the Electrical Lineworker field. The goal of this program effort is to provide candidates with the proper skills and knowledge via a variety of support services, including an academic scholarship, to attend a lineman school that will help them prepare to enter a rewarding career path and increase the possibility of future acceptance into APS’ Pre-Apprentice Lineman Program.
To promote the scholarship effort, Friendly House, in partnership with APS, will implement a grassroots and media communications outreach strategy in Maricopa, Pinal, La Paz and Pima counties, inviting male and female students and young adults from rural and urban communities in Arizona to consider a lineman career by attending one of two in-state lineman schools – Chandler-Gilbert Community College or Yavapai Community College. Targeted outreach at educational institutions, community centers and through community partner networks in addition to reaching out to an existing interest list - will allow program managers to market this program and generate interest from prospective communities that contribute to strategic and targeted workforce recruitment efforts.
