THE NEED FOR ADULT EDUCATION

Arizona, like most of the United States, suffers from social ills such as unemployment, crime and poverty that are directly linked to one another. At the core of each of the most pressing issues is the lack of education or English literacy. Many programs deal with the effects of these problems; however, Adult Education is the solution that gets to the root of the problem, illiteracy.

According to the Arizona Department of Education, Division of Adult and Family Literacy Education, in "Maricopa County alone, there are 465, 572 out-of-school adults that do not have a high school diploma or GED; and 69, 836 adults cannot communicate effectively in the English Language".
