Academia del Pueblo is a K-8 Charter school who's mission is to serve the academic, social and individual needs of the students by developing a community where ethnic diversity (language, culture, customs, heritage) is recognized, appreciated and celebrated.
We offer our students a Simultaneous Literacy Program to promote fluency, literacy and academic excellence in both English and Spanish. Our goal for the Simultaneous Literacy Program is to develop the capacity and love for learning in all students by:
• Nurturing creativity, critical thinking and social skills
• Enabling each individual to build self-esteem and character
• Inspiring responsible citizenship and global understanding
• Expecting quality work from both children and adults
Besides leading to higher academic achievement, our school fosters collaborative relationships among parents, teachers, students and the community. Families know we also care about what happens to children after class and support them in their parenting efforts.
At Academia del Pueblo, our enrollment has averaged 240 students over the past six years. Over 90% of our students are first generation immigrants, primarily from Mexico. We are aware that immigrant children face difficult times when they come to a new place. Our academic program is designed to empower immigrant children and families to succeed. We have hired highly qualified teachers that understand the students' culture and background because they themselves come from different Latin American countries. These teachers are the role models for the students and they help the students acquire a sense of belonging to this country.
