Mission
The Adult Education Program’s mission is to prepare adult learners to function effectively in the workplace, the family and the community.
Services
Friendly House Adult Education Program does not charge adult learners for instructional services that are covered by United Way, State and Federal Adult Education Funds. Friendly House Adult Education Program provides comprehensive literacy services to adult learners that include the following services:
- Adult Basic Education - reading, writing and math through the 8th grade level.
- Adult Secondary Education and GED Test Preparation.
- English for Speaker of Other Languages (ESOL) - Reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English.
- Citizenship Test Preparation.
- Workplace Literacy - Classes that are customized to meet the specific needs of a business or industry.
- Civics Education - Lesson that help students become productive and active member of the community.
- Financial Literacy - Instruction to enable adult learners to utilize the economic system including savings, checking and the proper use of credit.
- Health Literacy - Gain knowledge to understand health and safety issues.
Program Eligibility:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must be legal resident or citizen of the United States
- Not enrolled or required to be enrolled in secondary school
- Lack sufficient mastery of basic educational skills to enable the individual to function effectively in society
- Do not have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, or have not achieved an equivalent level of education; or
- are unable to speak, read or write the English language.
In Arizona, only providers who meet rigorous standards and produce positive outcomes are funded. The Arizona Department of Adult Education certified only twelve programs to provide Adult Education in Maricopa County and Friendly House is one of them.
